2025 Study Tour: Galway & Mayo – Agriculture & Peatlands
Join us for the 2025 Irish Peatland Society Study Tour, exploring the unique intersection of agriculture and peatlands in Galway and Mayo. This immersive experience will take you through the heart of the West’s peatland landscapes, where traditional farming practices meet innovative approaches to land management and conservation. Learn from experts, visit working farms, and discover sustainable methods for integrating agriculture with peatland restoration. This year’s tour offers a deep dive into how these vital ecosystems support biodiversity, local communities, and the fight against climate change. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore, learn, and connect with industry leaders and peers dedicated to preserving and transforming peatland landscapes.
The series of field trips has been organised over three days on 7th, 8th and 9th October 2025. This year’s event entails visits to sites in Galway and Mayo and has Agriculture and Peatlands as its core theme. Starting and finishing in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, the programme includes visits to seven peatland sites
Note also that in June next year 2026 the Society is planning to host an international field-based conference, with Agriculture and Peatlands as its core theme, and both this and last year’s autumn study tours have been scoped as a lead-in to the 2026 event.
