International Peatland Conference 2026
– Ireland June 8th to 11th

Showcasing Peatland Opportunities Today
Exploring Agriculture, Peatland Restoration & Renewable Energy Transitions
The International Peatland Conference 2026 will take place in Ireland from 8–11 June 2026, based in the Irish Midlands across Offaly, Westmeath, and Kildare. Hosted by the Irish Peatland Society (IrPS), this field-based international event will bring together global experts, policymakers, practitioners, and innovators to explore transitions in peatland use, from agriculture to post-industrial opportunities, with a strong focus on renewable energy and climate action.

Affiliated with the International Peatland Society (IPS), which represents a global network across more than 30 countries, the IrPS promotes the Wise Use of Peatlands by fostering open dialogue across science, policy, industry, and community perspectives. Building on over two decades of experience and a recent series of successful study tours across Ireland’s midlands and west, the 2026 conference draws on insights from more than 20 pioneering sites directly related to the conference themes.

The conference aims to deepen understanding of peatland systems, inspire international collaboration, and accelerate practical solutions for sustainable land use, rural regeneration, and carbon management. Its distinctive field-based format will see participants travel daily from Tullamore, Co. Offaly, to a range of peatland sites, where they will engage directly with land managers and subject-matter experts. Through hands-on learning, discussion, and networking, the conference will contribute to redefining the role of peatlands in building a climate-resilient, carbon-neutral future.
